Why Back Up Microsoft Office 365 Data with NAKIVO Backup & Replication
Fast and Flexible Backups
NAKIVO Backup & Replication allows you to back up your Microsoft Office 365 data to onsite storage. This way you can quickly and efficiently protect all of your Exchange Online, OneDrive for Business and SharePoint Online data. Alternatively, you can choose individual mailboxes, user OneDrives or SharePoint sites to back up. By default, Microsoft Office 365 backups are incremental after an initial full backup, copying only new items. This approach speeds up the backup process and saves disk space.
Advanced Scheduling Options
With NAKIVO Backup & Replication, you can schedule Microsoft Office 365 backup jobs to run automatically based on your data protection policy instead of running them ad hoc. The Calendar Dashboard offers a clear overview of your backup jobs, displaying all your data protection activities, including past, current and future Microsoft Office 365 backup jobs. This allows for more informed planning of your backup activities so you can optimize backup windows, avoid job overlaps and mitigate potential network congestion.
Accessible Offline Backups
Use NAKIVO Backup & Replication to maintain a copy of your Microsoft Office 365 data offline and on-premises. With offline backups, your data is safe from cyber security threats. In addition, with onsite Microsoft Office 365 backups, you gain full control over your data. If an account is compromised, just choose the version you need and restore the items to the original or to a custom location.
Flexible Granular Recovery
NAKIVO Backup & Replication offers flexibility when it comes to recovery of lost or corrupted Microsoft Office 365 data: choose what you want to restore and how to restore it. Recover mailbox folders (such as Inbox, Important, Drafts, Calendar, Contacts, Starred, etc.) and individual emails, OneDrive files or folders, or SharePoint Online document libraries and lists directly from backups. With granular object recovery, you don’t have to perform a full recovery of an entire user account to recover what you need. Just choose the recovery point, browse the contents, choose the item and recover it to the original location or the location of your choice.
Compliance Searches in Backups
NAKIVO Backup & Replication offers advanced search capabilities to help you find exactly what you need and quickly retrieve it from your backups. Whether you need to provide information to meet regulatory compliance requirements or to fulfill e-discovery requests, the centralized view of your Microsoft Office 365 backups makes it easy to locate and retrieve the necessary data by browsing your local Microsoft Office 365 backups. The solution offers several recovery options for OneDrive for Business, SharePoint Online and Exchange Online backups. Create up to 4,000 recovery points to retrieve the exact version of data you need. But recovery flexibility doesn’t stop there. Rather than recovering entire Microsoft Office 365 accounts, run granular recovery. This way, you can regain your access to lost emails, folders, files, contacts, calendar items, document libraries or lists within mere minutes. There’s more: You can restore your data to the original or a different Microsoft 365 location.
By backing up Microsoft Office 365 data and storing it locally, your organization can operate with a strong focus on compliance. For one thing, you minimize the risk of data deletion and corruption. For another, you can effortlessly fulfill e-discovery requests and other compliance requirements using the comprehensive search capabilities of NAKIVO Backup & Replication. Specifically, you can search through your OneDrive for Business files, SharePoint Online sites, and Exchange Online mailboxes. To facilitate your regulatory compliance efforts further, NAKIVO Backup & Replication offers you a set of highly adjustable backup retention policies. Set the policies once and they will automatically apply to newly added Microsoft Office 365 job items.
Improved RTOs and RPOs
Our solution allows you to keep pace with the latest technological breakthroughs to boost data safety in your organization. Establish improved RTOs and RPOs and reach them effortlessly with NAKIVO Backup & Replication. You can back up your Microsoft 365 accounts as often as you need for maximum data protection and availability. And if you need to access lost data, restore it granularly instead of running the full recovery. Thus, you can save time and avoid needless business disruptions. By improving RTOs and RPOs, you can ensure uninterrupted data availability for your colleagues, thereby facilitating their professional efforts.
Superior Data Access
Use NAKIVO Backup & Replication to store your Microsoft Office 365 data on-premises for quick and easy access. By making your backups readily available, the solution allows improving recovery times for your Exchange Online, OneDrive for Business and SharePoint Online data. Another major advantage of local storage is cost savings. Rather than regularly paying cloud storage bills, you can make a one-time investment in local storage infrastructure, which you can fully control. Last but not least, local backups make it easier to comply with multiple industry regulations.
NAKIVO Backup & Replication takes a lot of effort out of organizing your daily data protection routines. You can still use the solution to manually launch backup jobs, but you can also automate repetitive data protection tasks. Simply schedule your backup and recovery jobs and manage them via the Calendar dashboard. The built-in functionality offers you a comprehensive view of data protection workflow, thereby allowing you to avoid overlaps and network congestion. The set-it-and-forget-it approach to Microsoft 365 backup holds tremendous potential for time savings. By saving as much time as possible on data protection, you can improve your productivity in other areas of your work.
The first thing everyone notices about NAKIVO Backup & Replication is its intuitive interface. Even without prior training, you can effortlessly manage backup and recovery tasks. Here’s how to backup Exchange Online, OneDrive for Business or SharePoint Online data in just three steps. Start by adding a Microsoft account that needs protection to your NAKIVO Backup & Replication inventory. Then, create a SaaS Backup Repository to store backups of your Microsoft 365 data locally. Finally, run a backup job. If you need to restore Microsoft 365 data, run a granular recovery with similar ease. The simplified administration of data protection activities cuts staff training costs, allowing you to spend your IT budget elsewhere.
Cost-Efficient and Scalable
NAKIVO Backup & Replication is a scalable data protection solution that can support rapid business growth. You don’t have to worry about the protection of Microsoft Office 365 data as the number of employees grows. With a single deployment of the solution, you can back up thousands of Microsoft Office 365 user accounts. Thus, you can effortlessly adapt to the speed at which your company is growing without modifying your infrastructure. You should also know that the solution’s Microsoft Office 365 data protection functionality is licensed per user, which allows you to avoid needless spending. You can add Backup for Microsoft Office 365 to any NAKIVO Backup & Replication edition and license type you currently have and pay only for what you need.
Key Apps Protection
NAKIVO Backup & Replication delivers comprehensive data protection for the key apps of the Microsoft Office 365 suite: Exchange Online, OneDrive for Business and SharePoint Online. These apps make your organization more flexible and productive, and protecting the data residing in them is essential. NAKIVO Backup & Replication allows you to preserve the value of your Microsoft Office 365 data by backing it up to local storage. Files, folders, contacts, calendar items, sites and emails can be seamlessly backed up and preserved for as long as you need. With a single deployment of the solution, your company can retain full ownership of its data.
NAKIVO Backup & Replication is an integral part of your ransomware response plan. The solution is here so you don’t have to pay the ransom and withstand other consequences of a ransomware attack. If cybercriminals encrypt your Microsoft 365 data, restore it from a local backup to avoid costly downtime. While it’s not possible to prevent a ransomware attack in the cloud, the protection of data residing locally is entirely in your hands. By having Microsoft Office 365 data backed up locally, you gain leverage against ransomware attackers. Rather than starting the negotiations, restore the entirety of your data using highly-automated routines.
Tight integration with Microsoft Office 365 allows you to run backups without interrupting the smooth functioning of Exchange Online, OneDrive for Business and SharePoint Online. It means you can schedule backups during work hours. While backups are running in the background, Microsoft Office 365 accounts can be actively used to create files, send emails and conduct other professional activities. If any Microsoft 365 item is lost, you can recover it quickly to the same account or a different one for optimal workflow continuity.
Unified Web Interface
The unified web interface of NAKIVO Backup & Replication immediately places you at the center of data protection activities, enabling intuitive interaction right from the start. Use the simple Dashboard to create, view, run, and manage backup jobs for Exchange Online, OneDrive for Business and SharePoint Online. We’ve strived for clarity and consistency when designing the solution’s interface so that you don’t have to spend too much of your time learning your way around it. The ease of use and instant availability via the web interface allow you to manage data protection activities on your own or delegate them whenever the need arises.
Protecting Microsoft 365 Data with NAKIVO Backup & Replication
Perform Regular Microsoft 365 Backups
Even though it is stored in the cloud, SaaS data is as vulnerable to data loss as virtual and physical workloads. To meet your organization’s recovery time objective (RTO), it is important to back up the frequent changes within Exchange Online, OneDrive for Business, and SharePoint Online data in Microsoft 365 while saving backup storage space. Microsoft 365 backups in NAKIVO Backup & Replication are incremental by default with only changed data being sent to the backup repository. The solution stores Microsoft 365 data in local storage for accessibility and immediate recovery.
Create a Retention Policy to Meet RPO
To meet your organization’s recovery point objective (RPO) for Microsoft 365 data, create a retention policy to determine how frequently data should be backed up. You should also define a backup rotation scheme to retain only the recovery points you need. By defining a backup rotation scheme, you maintain the lifecycle of these recovery points and save storage space as expired recovery points are replaced with newer ones. After each incremental Microsoft 365 data backup, a recovery point is created representing a version of your data at a specific point in time. With up to 4,000 recovery points per Microsoft 365 backup in NAKIVO Backup & Replication, the points can be rotated daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly using the grandfather-father-son (GFS) scheme.
Test Granular Recoveries Regularly
Given that backup data should be available at a moment’s notice for financial reporting, e-discovery, and other regulatory requirements for data availability, retention, and recovery, perform regular granular recoveries of Microsoft 365 items. The solution delivers advanced search capabilities to help you easily find and recover Microsoft 365 items and meet reporting requirements or fulfill e-discovery requests. To verify that Exchange Online, OneDrive for Business, or SharePoint Online items can be instantly recovered after accidental or intentional data deletions, plan regular test restores of emails, contacts, calendar events, folders, files, lists, list items, document libraries, and sites. NAKIVO Backup & Replication for Microsoft Office 365 allows you to recover items directly from backups to the original or a different location.
Implement Security Measures
Implement security measures to avoid breaches to your backup data and maintain regulatory compliance. With NAKIVO Backup & Replication, you can configure two-factor authentication (2FA) to prevent unauthorized access to backup data and apply the principle of least privilege with role-based access control (RBAC).
Protect Backups Against Ransomware
Protect Microsoft 365 backups from ransomware by keeping them disconnected from your networks. By retaining multiple recovery points for point-in-time restores and creating an “air-gap”, you can ensure that you have a clean copy of Microsoft 365 data to recover from after a ransomware attack.

How NAKIVO Backup & Replication Helps You Resolve Microsoft Office 365 Data Protection Challenges
Retaining Former Employees’ Data
After deleting the Microsoft Office 365 user account of an employee who has left your organization, Microsoft only stores the data associated with that account for 30 days before deleting it. However, your organization may need to access a former employee’s data in the future for regulatory compliance purposes or to fulfill legal requests for information. Use Backup for Microsoft Office 365 to regularly back up mailboxes, OneDrive data and sites, thereby ensuring that you can recover your data when you need to, whatever the employee’s status. If an employee does leave the company for any reason, you will have a copy of their Exchange Online, OneDrive for Business and SharePoint Online data, including emails and files, that you can access whenever you need. Moreover, with NAKIVO Backup & Replication, you get granular recovery, allowing you to restore document libraries, lists, folders, files, contacts, calendar items and emails. Search and browse the backup versions and recover only the items you are looking for.
Managing Mailbox Limits
Microsoft Office 365 imposes limits on mailbox size depending on the plan. Additional shared mailboxes and archive mailboxes consume additional storage. Nevertheless, with large volumes of data, mailboxes are bound to use up all the available space eventually. This may lead employees to delete emails to free up space. This deleted data is not recoverable in Microsoft Office 365 after a limited time period. To address this problem, back up Office 365 mailboxes for long-term storage and future restoration. This serves two purposes. First, backups ensure that Microsoft Office 365 data is protected against accidental deletion, ransomware attacks and insider threats. Secondly, users can delete emails from the user mailbox to clear space, safe in the knowledge that secure backups exist. If the need for old emails suddenly arises, employees can rapidly restore the necessary data. Office 365 email backups can be stored indefinitely, guaranteeing that your data is available whenever it is needed.
Retaining Data for Compliance
Businesses retain data for regulatory compliance and for potential legal proceedings. Most data protection laws focus on transparent consumer data use and financial reporting and stipulate how long data should be stored. Microsoft Office 365 addresses legal compliance with the native Litigation Hold feature, which freezes mailboxes to prevent deletion. However, if a regulatory body or court requests previously deleted data, Microsoft Office 365 offers no functionality to protect a business from penalties. The best way to ensure compliance with laws and regulations is to back up Office 365 data with NAKIVO Backup & Replication. Store these backups onsite or offsite according to local legislation.
Ensuring Business Continuity
Accidental deletions, rogue administrators and external threats expose data to loss, theft and ransomware attacks. These unwanted risks and threats can lead to operational disruptions and reputational losses for businesses. While the loss of personal data can irrevocably weaken customer trust, Microsoft Office 365 offers limited functions to address these issues. By backing up Microsoft Office 365 data, you build an effective disaster recovery plan and ensure business continuity. Create multiple backups stored on different devices to establish resiliency. Then, if data loss occurs, rapidly restore entire mailbox folders or individual objects directly back to the source. You can also mitigate the risk of rogue administrators by configuring role-based access control (RBAC) to limit users’ access.
Preserving Data During Migrations
Migrating from an on-premises Exchange Server setup to a hybrid or purely cloud Exchange Online deployment offers businesses greater operational efficiency. But it also poses significant data loss risks. Migrations are multistage processes in which administrators must carefully track the status of every user and mailbox. Any mistake or disruption exposes businesses to losing critical business data. Use NAKIVO Backup for Microsoft Office 365 to establish fail-safe mechanisms during migrations. NAKIVO Backup & Replication supports backups for Exchange Online mailboxes and machines running Exchange Server. If at any point, during or after the migration, administrators learn that data has been lost in the process, they can rapidly restore the items from the backups. Once the migration has been completed, repurpose the backups to ensure regulatory compliance and protect against security threats.
Delegating Data Protection Activities
Large corporations can delegate Microsoft Office 365 backup and recovery to specific branches or business units. With the multi-tenancy functionality in NAKIVO Backup & Replication, this scenario can be implemented successfully by using the multi-tenant setup to create isolated environments (tenants) within a single software deployment. This setup simplifies data protection management for tenants and offers centralized control and visibility for administrators. Offloading some of the routine data protection activities helps maintain flexibility and short recovery times. The role-based access controls (RBAC) feature allows administrators to assign specific roles to tenants.
Providing Ransomware Protection
With ransomware attacks growing in scale and frequency, thereby crippling businesses and governmental organizations, it’s essential to protect your cloud assets. Don’t let cybercriminals lock you out of access to your Microsoft Office 365 data. Use NAKIVO Backup & Replication to create local backups for Exchange Online, OneDrive for Business and SharePoint Online data. By storing your backups locally, you can restore your Microsoft 365 data without paying the ransom if it’s locked or encrypted by ransomware. It is hard to overestimate the importance of having a locally-stored backup since the average cost of a ransom exceeds $200,000. With instant recovery of items, you can quickly resume your operations and leave the cybercriminals empty-handed.
Regain Control of Your SaaS Data
Microsoft Office 365 offers high-quality SaaS for business collaboration and productivity. But no matter how much you enjoy using Microsoft Office 365, you might want to have full control of your data residing in the cloud by storing it locally. To ensure you have access to your data at any time, you can back up your Office 365 data to local storage in your data center. NAKIVO Backup & Replication seamlessly backs up Microsoft Office 365 data and makes it available through an intuitive interface. Thus, you can conduct your business knowing that no company has disproportionate control over your cloud data.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to back up Microsoft Office 365 applications?
Yes. Although Microsoft Office 365 offers version history and limited data retention that can protect your data from user errors, these features do not amount to backup and recovery. You need a dedicated backup solution to protect your data against accidental deletions, ransomware and other threats, and to ensure compliance with regulations.
Do I need to back up Exchange Online data?
Yes. Microsoft Office 365 only stores deleted Exchange Online mailboxes and emails for a limited time before permanently purging them. This is useful to recover accidental deletions within that time period, but it doesn’t provide long-term retention. With an Exchange Online backup, you can quickly recover from data loss or corruption and maintain business continuity.
How often can I run backups in NAKIVO Backup & Replication?
You can run Office 365 data backup jobs as often as every minute either ad hoc or automatically. You have various scheduling options to automate backups to run monthly, weekly, daily or even every few minutes. Organizations should first assess their operational requirements, define desired RTOs and RPOs, and then choose their backup frequency.
How long is backup data retained in NAKIVO Backup & Replication?
There is no limit to how long a user’s data can be retained. Each time NAKIVO Backup & Replication backs up Microsoft Office 365 OneDrives, mailboxes or sites, it creates a recovery point. Each recovery point represents a different version of your data at a point in time. This gives you flexibility for granular recovery.
Do I need to back up OneDrive for Business data?
Yes. While Microsoft Office 365 does offer version history and limited data retention to protect against quickly noticed user errors, these features are not substitutes for a OneDrive backup solution. If you want to ensure data recoverability, you need a dedicated backup solution to protect your data against ransomware and accidental deletions.
Do I need to back up SharePoint Online data?
Yes. Although Microsoft 365 ensures infrastructure maintenance and uptime, Microsoft uses the “shared responsibility” model to divide the data life cycle between Microsoft and the Microsoft 365 user. This means that although there are some retention policies in place to correct user and administrative errors in the short term, data protection is the user’s responsibility. Using a third-party backup and recovery solution to protect SharePoint Online data is recommended.
How does Backup for Microsoft 365 work?
NAKIVO Backup & Replication allows you to back up an entire Microsoft 365 account, Exchange Online mailboxes, OneDrive for Business accounts, and SharePoint Online sites. You can specify which Microsoft Office 365 items should be backed up, where Microsoft Office 365 backups should be located, how often the backup jobs should occur and what backup options should be used. When the job starts running, NAKIVO Backup & Replication retrieves the necessary Microsoft 365 data hosted in the cloud and stores a copy in a local SaaS Backup Repository. Once the job is completed, you can access and recover your data any time you need it.
How can NAKIVO Backup & Replication help me meet compliance requirements for Microsoft 365?
With backups and the appropriate retention policy for your business needs, you know that you are always prepared to meet compliance requirements and complete e-discovery requests when the need arises. Use the advanced search capabilities that NAKIVO Backup & Replication provides. Backup for Microsoft 365 allows you to perform granular restoration of selected items, including Exchange Online emails (along with attachments), contacts and calendars; OneDrive files and folders; and SharePoint Online document libraries and lists. You can search your Microsoft 365 backups for the data to retrieve using the name of the file, folder, document library, site, or keywords from subject lines, email body or email address.
How many Microsoft 365 users can I protect with one instance of NAKIVO Backup & Replication?
You can protect thousands of users in a single deployment of NAKIVO Backup & Replication. You can purchase additional Microsoft 365 subscription licenses to protect more users when you scale out or up, or remove users if you scale down. Keep in mind that you can purchase a minimum of 10 licenses per order.
How much does it cost to back up Microsoft 365 data with NAKIVO Backup & Replication?
Backup for Microsoft 365 in NAKIVO Backup & Replication is licensed per user. This means that the total price of subscription licenses for Microsoft 365 backup depends on the number of user accounts to be backed up — you only pay for what you need. You can calculate the total price for a certain number of Microsoft 365 users over a certain subscription period using the NAKIVO pricing calculator, or reach out to NAKIVO sales team for a quote.
Who can access a Microsoft Office 365 backup and control the process of data backup and recovery?
You can control who has access to the features, resources and data protection processes in NAKIVO Backup & Replication with the role-based access control (RBAC) feature. Create roles and assign a unique set of permissions to your infrastructure users. As an administrator, you can update their permissions and access levels, including view-only, run-only, full access or custom permissions.
What are my responsibilities as a Microsoft Office 365 user?
Microsoft is only responsible for maintaining its physical and virtual infrastructure. As a user, you are expected to take care of Microsoft Office 365 data protection with a backup and recovery solution, respond to external and internal risks and threats and ensure long-term data retention for legal and compliance purposes.
Where are my Microsoft Office 365 backups stored?
Before backing up your Microsoft Office 365 data, you must create a Backup Repository specifically for Microsoft Office 365 in NAKIVO Backup & Replication to store backups and metadata.
Can I work with Exchange Online mailboxes, OneDrive user accounts and SharePoint sites during a running backup job?
Yes. As a user, you have complete access to Exchange Online, OneDrive for Business and SharePoint Online while a Microsoft Office 365 data backup job is running. NAKIVO Backup & Replication keeps the backup process invisible to prevent any disruptions in your production environment. This allows scheduled backups to happen in the background without affecting application availability or performance.

While Microsoft does everything possible to maintain the infrastructure and provide its users with reliable service, many things can still go wrong and can jeopardize your Microsoft 365 data. Without a dedicated Microsoft 365 backup solution, you put your data at risk of being compromised by accidental deletions, external and internal security vulnerabilities, legal and compliance penalties, and retention policy gaps.
What are the general requirements for using Backup for Microsoft Office 365?
A set of general requirements must be met to successfully use Backup for Microsoft 365 in NAKIVO Backup & Replication. First, install NAKIVO Backup & Replication on one of the compatible operating systems (refer to Help Center). Second, add the Microsoft 365 account to the inventory in NAKIVO Backup & Replication. Then provide the required API permissions in Microsoft Azure Portal for the solution. You need to set separate read and write permissions for Exchange Online, OneDrive for Business and SharePoint Online. Create a special local SaaS Backup Repository in NAKIVO Backup & Replication for your Microsoft 365 backups. Once you create your first Microsoft Office 365 job, NAKIVO Backup & Replication runs an initial full backup of your Microsoft 365 data.
What counts as a user when purchasing subscription licenses for Microsoft 365 backup?
One mailbox for Exchange Online or one user OneDrive for OneDrive for Business within your Microsoft 365 subscription counts as one Microsoft 365 user in NAKIVO Backup & Replication. A personal site or a user that has access to a SharePoint Online site with “Edit” or “Full Control” permissions also counts as one Microsoft user. However, you do not need to count the same user more than once across multiple Office 365 services, that is, the same Exchange Online, SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business user is considered to be one Microsoft 365 user. In addition, shared mailboxes do not require a license. Note that the following mailboxes are not supported: resource, public folder, guest and group mailboxes.
How many recovery points can I create per each Microsoft Office 365 backup job?
After each job run, NAKIVO Backup & Replication creates a recovery point for each item in the Backup Repository. A single Microsoft Office 365 backup job can contain up to 4,000 recovery points. To facilitate long-term retention of your Microsoft 365 data, you can rotate these recovery points on a daily, weekly, monthly and yearly basis.
Who owns the backed up Microsoft 365 data once you run a backup job in NAKIVO Backup & Replication?
Your Microsoft 365 data backups are stored in a local folder. This means that you have full control over your Microsoft 365 backup data stored on-premises and you are the one and only owner of Microsoft Office 365 backups that you create.
Can I deliver Backup for Microsoft Office 365 as a service?

Protect Your Microsoft 365 Data Against Ransomware with NAKIVO Backup & Replication
Why you need NAKIVO Backup & Replication to protect your Microsoft Office 365 data against ransomware
Ransomware poses one of the most serious threats to businesses, costing hundreds of thousands of dollars in data recovery, reputational damage and business downtime. With cyberattacks growing more frequent and sophisticated, a rock-solid ransomware protection plan is essential for business continuity and resiliency. Microsoft Office 365 user accounts have always been primary targets for ransomware attacks. With collaboration tools like Exchange Online, OneDrive for Business and SharePoint Online, malware can spread across multiple accounts like wildfire, resulting in even greater damage. Even though Microsoft Office 365 provides malware protection, attackers often manage to break this first line of defense and infiltrate your network, rendering business data inaccessible. NAKIVO Backup & Replication helps you ensure smooth recovery if your Microsoft 365 data is encrypted or locked by ransomware. The solution offers a range of backup and recovery options, enabling you to restore Office 365 data without paying the ransom.
How NAKIVO Backup & Replication protects your Microsoft Office 365 data against ransomware
A reliable backup solution is the most effective way to protect your systems against ransomware and ensure successful ransomware recovery when all else fails. NAKIVO Backup & Replication creates regular incremental backups of your Exchange Online, OneDrive for Business and SharePoint Online data to ensure recovery in case of a ransomware attack. Increasing Office 365 backup frequency ensures the most recent data is included, resulting in minimal data loss during ransomware recovery operations. NAKIVO Backup & Replication allows you to maintain a copy of Microsoft Office 365 data on-premises to ensure data remains safe from cybersecurity threats. This guarantees that you can quickly resume operations if your systems get infected with ransomware. Storing your Exchange Online, OneDrive for Business, or SharePoint Online backups on-premises also allows for faster data access and ransomware recovery.
How to recover after ransomware with NAKIVO Backup & Replication
Your backup solution is as good as the recovery options it provides to help you get back up and running quickly after a ransomware attack. When it comes to ransomware recovery of encrypted Microsoft Office 365 data, NAKIVO Backup & Replication enables you to instantly recover entire mailboxes and individual emails, OneDrive files or folders, and SharePoint Online document libraries and lists directly from on-premises backups. The solution allows you to keep up to 4,000 recovery points for your Microsoft Office 365 backups, so you don’t have to recover an entire user account to recover just one item in the event of ransomware. With granular object recovery:
- choose the recovery point
- browse or search contents
- choose the clean version of the required item (email, folder, contact, calendar item, file, document library or list)
- recover the item to the original or a different location
Secure access to your backups in NAKIVO Backup & Replication with RBAC
You can also protect your Microsoft Office 365 backups from unauthorized access! After protecting your business data against ransomware by backing it up, you need to make sure that your backups and data protection activities, in general, cannot be tampered with. To enhance the security of your Microsoft Office 365 backups, NAKIVO Backup & Replication provides you with role-based access control (RBAC) to ensure that unauthorized users cannot modify or overwrite your Microsoft 365 backups. You can assign particular roles and permissions for each part of the Microsoft Office 365 backup and recovery process to your employees and grant only the amount of access they need to perform their jobs. Authorized users can be set up to only view, edit, delete or create Microsoft 365 backup and recovery jobs. The role-based access control (RBAC) feature in NAKIVO Backup & Replication can help you restrict access to your Microsoft Office 365 data protection activities and ensure that ransomware-infected users cannot infect your backups.
