Encryption in Flight and at Rest
Protect your backup and replication data from unauthorized access and malicious data tampering. NAKIVO Backup & Replication allows you to use AES-256, one of the most reliable encryption standards in the world. Ensure that your data is always secure: store encrypted files in password-protected repositories or enable encryption when sending data over the internet.

Encryption in Flight and at Rest in NAKIVO Backup & Replication
Golden Encryption Standard
NAKIVO Backup & Replication encodes backup and replication data using Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) algorithm with a 256-bit key length. This means that hackers will need to brute force 2256 different combinations to decipher your data. AES-256 is the de-facto standard for data encryption used by governments, financial banks, e-commerce and NASA.
Network Encryption (in Flight)
Enable network encryption when sending backup and replication data over an unsecured WAN (for example, without a VPN connection). For this, install an additional Transporter on the remote site where you need to send data. A Transporter is the NAKIVO Backup & Replication component for data processing and transfer. With network encryption enabled, the source Transporter encrypts data before sending files over WAN. The target Transporter decrypts the received files and writes data to the repository.
Repository Encryption (at Rest)
Improve backup and replication data security by encrypting the entire data storage. With NAKIVO Backup & Replication, you can enable encryption and set a secure password for repositories in local folders, deduplication appliances or in Amazon EC2. The feature is available only for those repositories that are created on Linux machines on which the assigned Transporter is installed.
