NAKIVO Helps Electronics Manufacturer Recover from a Cyberattack
Business Challenge
Foxconn is one of the largest contract electronics manufacturers in the world, headquartered in Taiwan. The company owns over 50,000 patents with annual revenue surpassing USD 200 billion in 2022. Foxconn BC is one of the company’s factories in Mexico, manufacturing medical devices and consumer electronics.
Foxconn BC operates from two sites, with 150 physical servers and 400 virtual machines. The virtual machines store databases, file servers, web application services, Microsoft SQL and Oracle databases. Downtime and data loss can impact the manufacturing processes detrimentally; thus, backup and recovery services should be in place to support 24/7 operations.
Foxconn BC protected its environment by using another VM backup solution. However, licensing and annual maintenance costs proved to be a burden for the company. Recovery was slow, with no automation options. A new solution had to offer faster recovery times and provide cost-efficient licensing.
Solution
“Our experience of implementing and configuring NAKIVO Backup & Replication has been excellent. The product helped us reduce the execution time of our backups by 50%, allowing us to increase the number of backups of our environments,” says Jesus Alfonso Rangel Diaz, IT Infrastructure Coordinator at Foxconn BC. “The recovery time by using instant VM recovery and instant granular recovery features has allowed us to improve the recovery of critical environments for our operations by 70%. While utilizing the VM replication feature allowed us to replicate VMs in a recurring mode without losing data.”
“In terms of technical support, we were glad to see that in 2022, support staff were available in our time zone. Technical support has been timely and personalized, teaching and advising us, as well as reviewing our environment and proposing what practices to implement,” says Jesus.
“In terms of cost, we had a 50% reduction in annual maintenance costs, allowing us to increase the number of licenses to support more equipment and obtain more features that we did not have with our previous backup solution,” says Jesus.
“Finally, we had the experience of a cyberattack, where NAKIVO’s engineering team together with our local partner, Avit, gave us excellent support and helped restore all our affected services very quickly,” says Jesus.
Results
“NAKIVO Backup & Replication allows us to back up our entire environment in less than 24 hours, cutting the time by 50% compared with our previous backup solution,” says Jesus. “NAKIVO Backup & Replication provides a rich feature set, including VM replication and instant VM recovery. We saved 50% of money annually with NAKIVO Backup & Replication versus our previous backup solution. The fact that NAKIVO Backup & Replication helped us recover from a cyberattack is, of course, priceless,” says Jesus.
