Test 1: Cloud Backup with Network Interruption
What we’re testing: How NAKIVO Backup & Replication handles backup interruptions when your internet connection drops.
1.Deploy a cloud repository: Create a cloud backup repository in any of the supported cloud storage platform:
- Amazon S3
- Wasabi
- Azure Blob
- Backblaze B2
- S3-compatible storage
2.Create a backup job: Create at least one new backup job for any of the following platforms:
a. Microsoft 365
b. VMware vSphere
c. Proxmox VE
d. Nutanix AHV
e. Microsoft Hyper-V
f. Physical machine (Windows or Linux)
g. Network share (SMB or NFS)
In the Destination step of the backup job wizard, select the cloud repository you created earlier.
3.Run backups: Run the initial backup job in order to create your first backup. Add or change data in the source object and then run the backup job again to create an additional incremental recovery point.
4.Add test data: Add or change data in the source object in the backup job once more.
5.Test network interruption: Run the backup job again manually in the Full synthetic backup mode. During the data transfer stage of the backup job, disconnect the machine that hosts NAKIVO Backup & Replication from the network.
To see if the job is in the data transfer stage, go to Data Protection > Job overview. Click on the job and observe the Transferred Raw Data widget. When the data transfer starts, disconnect the machine from the network.
6.Reconnect and retry: After completing Step 5, the backup job will fail. You will see a message: [source object] cannot be processed. Time spent: [duration]. NAKIVO Backup & Replication will wait 15 minutes before automatically rerunning the job.
Once you see the message in the Events widget on the Overview dashboard, you need to reconnect NAKIVO Backup & Replication to the network.
7.Wait for completion: Let the job rerun finish successfully.
8.Test recovery: Create and run a recovery job using the latest recovery point.
9.Verify results: Check that your recovered machines/files/objects are recoverable and contain all the changes made before the interrupted backup run.
Test 2: vSphere 9 Compatibility
What we’re testing: Making sure NAKIVO Backup & Replication works smoothly with the latest VMware vSphere version.
1.Discover your environment: Add your VMware vSphere 9 environment (vCenter Server or standalone ESXi host) to the NAKIVO Backup & Replication Inventory.
2.Create new jobs: Create one backup job and one replication job. Each job should include at least 2 virtual machines (VMs).
3.Run the jobs: Run each job twice:
- The first run to create the initial recovery point
- The second run creates an incremental recovery point
Make sure that Changed Block Tracking is enabled for each job before running it.
4.Create recovery jobs:
- For the backup job, create a Full VM Recovery job.
- For the replica, create a Failover job.
5.Test recovery: Run the two jobs: Full VM Recovery and Failover. Wait for the jobs to complete successfully.
6.Verify functionality: Confirm that the recovered and failed-over VMs:
- boot successfully
- Contain the expected data and configuration
(Optional) Test special configurations: If available, include VMs with unique configurations (for example, special hardware settings, large disks, snapshots) in your tests.
Test 3: Microsoft 365 Backup and Recovery
What we’re testing: Backing up and restoring Microsoft 365 data.
1.Add Microsoft 365 account: Connect your Microsoft 365 account to the NAKIVO Backup & Replication Inventory and ensure all required permissions are granted.
2.Deploy a cloud repository: Create a cloud backup repository in Amazon S3 or Azure Blob.
3.Create backup job to the cloud repository: Use the Microsoft 365 Backup Job Wizard to select the specific data types you want to protect:
- Exchange Online mailboxes
- OneDrive for Business user drives
- SharePoint Online sites
- Microsoft Teams
3.Run initial backup: Start your first Microsoft 365 backup job. Confirm that the backup completes successfully without errors.
4.Run additional backups: Perform 2 more backup runs: one incremental backup and one full synthetic backup. Verify each completes successfully.
5.Test recovery: Create a Microsoft 365 recovery job. Use the most recent backup as the source. Restore data to the original location or an alternate account.
6.Verify recovery: Verify that all selected items were restored correctly. Validate access and integrity of restored data (emails, files, teams, etc.)
7.Performance feedback: Measure and record:
- Backup duration
- Recovery duration
- Any performance issues or observations
Share your experience (speed, ease of use, reliability).
Important: Use your business email for all stages of the beta test. For more information, refer to the Beta Program Terms & Conditions. If you have any questions, contact the NAKIVO Support Team.
