The Right Backup
NAKIVO Backup & Replication provides native backup for Hyper-V Server 2016 and Hyper-V Server 2012 (R2). The product can back up live running Hyper-V VMs without installing any agents in VMs or interrupting VMs operation. To ensure that data in applications and databases (such as Exchange, Active Directory, SQL, SharePoint) is consistent, NAKIVO Backup & Replication can use the application-aware backup mode, which relies on Microsoft VSS technology.
The resulting Hyper-V backup includes all VM data and VM configuration, so that you can recover OS files, application objects, and the entire VM in exactly the same state as it was during the backup. For each Hyper-V backup, you can save up to 1,000 recovery points, and rotate them on a daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly basis.
The Fast Backup
With architecture optimized for performance, NAKIVO Backup & Recovery gets the most from your environment bandwidth to complete backup jobs as fast as possible. Hyper-V backups are forever-incremental and (after the initial full backup) transfer only changed data to the backup repository. The data is stored using the cutting-edge full synthetic mode, which eliminates the need for periodic full backups and recovery point transformations. On top of that, you can enable Network Acceleration to decrease the network load and boost backup speed up to two times in WAN and busy LAN networks.
The Small Backup
Even with forever-incremental backups, you need to store more and more data every day. To reduce backup size, NAKIVO Backup & Replication automatically deduplicates all your backups across an entire backup repository, even if the repository stores a mix of Hyper-V, VMware, and EC2 instance backups.
To further reduce backup size, all deduplicated data blocks are automatically compressed. The two data reduction technologies work together behind the scenes to significantly reduce space occupied by backups.
What if your Hyper-V VMs and their backups get encrypted by ransomware? Or lost in a fire? Or drowned by a burst water pipe, stolen, accidentally deleted, corrupted, unavailable?
You better have a backup for a backup! NAKIVO Backup & Replication allows you to easily set up backup copy jobs and send backup copies to a safe offsite location, you can even copy backups to Azure and AWS clouds.
You can choose to maintain one (or multiple) exact copies of your backups or set rules as to what, where, how, and when should be copied.
Using the backup verification feature, NAKIVO Backup & Replication checks VM backups at the block level and ensures that the data written to the backup repository is identical to the data that was read from the source VM, thus verifying that application objects, files, and the entire VM can be recovered.
When You Need Your Data Back
Instant Granular Recovery and eDiscovery
With NAKIVO Backup & Replication v7 you can instantly recover files, Microsoft Exchange objects (such as emails), and Active Directory objects (such as users) directly from compressed and deduplicated Hyper-V backups. Once you choose a recovery type and a recovery point, data is read from the backup repository and displayed in the product’s web interface within seconds. From there, you can browse, search, and select items that you need, and then recover them with a push of a button, without restoring the entire Hyper-V VM first.
Hyper-V VM Recovery
In just a few clicks, you can restore an entire Hyper-V VM back to the same or to a new host. The backup repository can be located anywhere – in the same location, offsite, or in Azure or AWS cloud. The VM will be restored in its entirety and in the same state as it was during the backup.
Hyper-V Backup Appliance Based on Your NAS
You can create your own, high-performance VM backup appliance by installing NAKIVO Backup & Replication directly on a QNAP, Synology or Western Digital NAS! This way, you can separate backup from your environment, offload backup workload from your Hyper-V servers to the NAS, and combine backup software, backup hardware, data deduplication, and backup data in a single device that has all you need for backup and recovery.
NAKIVO Backup & Replication provides great features that help automate Hyper-V backup. First off, you can add entire Hyper-V hosts to a backup job. This way, all existing VMs and new VMs that appear on the Hyper-V host in the future will be automatically added to the backup job. You can also create chained job runs, run custom Pre and Post Job Scripts as well as integrate with 3rd-party monitoring and automation tools by using HTTP APIs.
In the multi-tenant mode, NAKIVO Backup & Replication enables delivering backup as a service to your customers. In this mode, you can create multiple isolated tenants within the single copy of the product, while each tenant will have access only to their own jobs and environment via the self-service portal.
