Backup to Tape
One of the new features introduced with the release of v9.1 is Backup to Tape. Magnetic tape first proved itself to be an effective means of data protection and preservation decades ago. Our new feature allows for storage of backup data for compliance purposes, as well as long-term data archiving. Since tape is a form of “offline” storage technology, you can rest assured that your data is protected from hackers and cybercriminals. Even the world's largest tech companies choose to rely on tape storage solutions, which is further evidence that tape will remain in use for years to come.
Our new release provides a means of safely writing data to tape and easily restoring your backups when needed. With NAKIVO Backup & Replication, you can write backups directly onto regular tape cartridges. Additionally, the v9.1 release supports not only standalone tape drives, but also LTO tape libraries and Virtual Tape Libraries. Our comprehensive solution supports tape hardware starting from LTO3 generation. Finally, our solution offers a way to monitor and maintain all your tape libraries from a single point of control, thus reducing the complexity of data protection management.
Linux Server Backup
Another feature coming in the v9.1 release enables you to back up physical Linux servers, expanding our data protection functionality even further. Along with the recently added Windows Server Backup feature, Linux Server Backup provides you with an opportunity to protect hybrid environments to a far greater extent.
Now, Linux Server backups can be performed in an application-aware mode, which provides for the uniformity and consistency of application and database data. Also, our solution uses a proprietary changed block tracking technology. This can allow you to perform incremental backups and in such a way as to greatly save time and network resources. To speed up backup jobs, you can enable the Network Acceleration feature, both in LAN and WAN networks. Finally, data deduplication and different compression levels can help you decrease the size of your backups and use storage space in a more efficient way.
Windows Workstation Backup
Losing business-critical data because of PC failure, accidental deletion, or corruption can turn into a disaster. The new feature of NAKIVO Backup & Replication v9.1 addresses this challenge by allowing you to perform incremental, application-aware backups of your Windows 10-based workstations.
The new functionality includes most of our product’s features designed for ensuring data protection under any circumstances. Global deduplication and compression provide a means for reducing backup size, thus allowing you to save on data storage costs. You can easily recover individual files, folders, and application objects right from compressed and deduplicated backups, with no need to perform a full-scale recovery. This is a way to optimize resource usage and prevent network overload.
To eliminate a single point of failure, you can keep a copy of your backup offsite, in the cloud, and even on tape. Finally, the Physical to Virtual (P2V) feature allows you to migrate workloads from your PC to a virtualization platform. You can seamlessly export Windows Desktop backups into VHD(X) or VMDK file formats, ensuring operational recovery across platforms. With our solution, you can schedule your backup jobs and proceed to data protection tasks requiring more attention.
With the release of v9.1, the team of NAKIVO Backup & Replication updated its existing backup and replica verification functionality which is now referred to as Instant Verification. This feature allows you to verify the validity of your backups and replicas and ensure that they can be used whenever necessary. For this purpose, two approaches are available: Screenshot Verification and Boot Verification. After a backup or replication job has been successfully completed, the Screenshot Verification feature can test-recover your VM. It waits for the OS to boot, makes a screenshot, and then discards the VM. You can either receive the screenshot via email or view the results right in the product’s interface.
The newly added Boot Verification functionality can help you ensure that your VMs are recoverable by testing hypervisor tools in the guest OS. In particular, the feature requires VMware Tools and Hyper-V Integration Services to be installed on all VMs. The solution recovers your VM after a backup or replication job is complete, starts the OS, and checks whether hypervisor tools are available using the heartbeat mechanism. You can choose whether to receive the results via email or view them in the product’s UI.
